Bekah Brunstetter’s acclaimed comedy-drama The Cake takes a political hot-button and bakes it into something deeply and sweetly personal.

Della makes cakes, not judgment calls--those she leaves to her husband, Tim. But when the girl she helped raise comes back home to North Carolina to get married—and her betrothed is another woman—Della’s life gets turned upside down. She can’t really make a cake for such a wedding, can she?

The Cake is a bittersweet culture-clash comedy by Bekah Brunstetter, who has spent the last couple of years writing for two of the hottest shows on TV: “American Gods,” the Starz series based on the acclaimed fantasy novel by Neil Gaiman, and “This Is Us,” the award-winning NBC dramedy on which she’s also a producer.
